Nonene

Nonene, also known as propylene trimer, is a branched olefin produced by the oligomerisation of propylene. Nonene is most widely used as a chemical intermediate to produce oxo-alcohols, surfactants, resins, coatings, antioxidants, additives for lubricants, plastics and rubbers.

Janex is the leading independent global distributor of nonene.  We generally supply either in parcel tankers or in iso-tanks.

Nonene: CAS 27215-95-8 / EC: 68526-55-6 EC 97593-01-6

Process:

Propylene is oligomerised by catalytic olefin condensation to produce a higher olefin liquid mixture called polygas which is then separated by distillation.

Several acid catalysts can be used including solid phosphoric acid (SPA) and zeolites.

Main Applications:

Nonene is used as a building block in the production of a number of chemical intermediate materials including:

  • Iso-decanol
  • Di-nonyl naphthalene
  • Neodecanoic acid and its esters
  • Nonenyl succinic anhydride
  • Nonylated diphenylamine
  • Nonyl mercaptan
  • Nonylphenol and ethoxylates
