Resin Chemicals

Janex offers a range of Resin Chemicals and Feedstocks.  These intermediates are used to produce resins with a wide range of applications such as coatings, lubricants, fibers / textiles and rubbers.

In our dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) range we offer purities from 70% to over 99%. DCPD has a variety of applications as raw material for the production of resins including aromatic hydrocarbon resins, unsaturated polyester resins, phenolic resins, epoxy resins, alkyds, acrylates, lattices, specialty resins and for other specialty intermediates.

Customers are also interested in neopentyl glycol (NPG) for the production of saturated / unsaturated polyester resin, oil-free alkyd resin, polyester polyol and used synthetic lubricant esters, polyurethane foam plastics and elastomers plasticisers, senior lubricating oil additives and other fine chemicals.

We supply isoprene monomer where the main application is the production of polymers and co-polymers e.g. rubber, with volumes driven by the increasing demand from the medical and tyre manufacturing industries.

Piperylene is used as a monomer in the manufacture of plastics, adhesives and resins and is the basic raw material for aliphatic tackifiers.

Alpha-Methylstyrene (AMS) is a chemical intermediate used in the manufacture of plasticizers, resins and polymers. It is a co-product formed in a variation of the cumene process.

Resin Feedstock - Resin Oils (C5 and C9) are used to produce hydrocarbon-based resins such as C9 aromatic-based resins or C5 / C9-based resins. These resins are typically used in applications where the color of the resin is not a determining factor, such as in printing inks, road markings and paints.

Due to their aliphatic chemical nature, C5 resins find their greatest utility as tackifiers for predominantly aliphatic polymers such as natural rubber, styrene-isoprene-styrene block copolymers, styrene-ethylene butylene-styrene block copolymers, amorphous polyolefins, polyethylene, butyl rubber, EPDM rubber, and petroleum waxes. They are used in the production of pressure sensitive adhesives tapes and labels, hot melt adhesives for nonwoven product assembly, modified wax compounds, hot melt road marking compounds, rubber compounding, and paint and coatings applications.

C5 could be used as a source for components like cyclopentadiene, isoprene or piperylene for further processing.

Resin Feed is a mixture of (mainly unsaturated) C9 and C10 components rich in indene and vinyltoluenes. It originates from the high temperature cracking of petroleum fractions and is distilled out of pyrolysis gasoline (pygas) during the production of benzene. Since this product is a distillation bottoms, product it also contains heavier components such as naphthalene. Alternatively, Resin Feed can be used as a blend-component in gasoline.

C9 resin oil is a relatively unrefined material, its polymerisation leads to much darker resins than other hydrocarbon resins. Due to their aromatic structure, C9 resins are more compatible with polar elastomers than C5 resins. They are most commonly used in systems based on styrene butadiene rubber, styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymers, polychloroprene rubber, ethylene vinyl acetate copolymers with high levels of vinyl acetate (>28%), chlorinated paraffins, paints, and concrete curing compounds.
